This is how I feel

For Christmas my brother and I bought our Mum a voucher for a half day at a spa. Today she and I went to enjoy the treatments there.
One steam room session, one massage with hot stones (heartily recommended), one session of Hopi ear candles (a bit weird, but seems to have brought a [...]

This much I know

It’s always ‘rains stops play’, never ‘rain stops work’.
Wrong. So very, very wrong.

Nice weather for ducks

The bank holiday came and went, along with rain that seemed as though it would never end.

We had grand plans to put phase 1 of our garden redesign into motion. We did make a start, but were beaten back by the unforgiving weather and the appearance of yet another truly corking cold that ran [...]

Default position

Tomorrow is my gardening assistant’s birthday. A day we are going to fill by opening gifts, having a boozy lunch, taking delivery of a skip (what a fabulous present!), cooking for friends, and enjoying cake and home-made ice-cream.

Because enjoying ice-cream is something we do so rarely in this house.

Heard on the radio last night.

A description of Daphne Du Maurier’s The Birds as follows: “It paints a terrifying picture of the natural world turning on mankind.”
Works as a description of Pumpkin Soup too.

My allotment shame

Tonight we tiptoed down to the plot for the first time in over a month. A month that has seen plentiful rain and some nice fat dollops of sunshine. Perfect rampant weed weather. The sight that greeted us when we arrived was enough almost to send us sprinting back home sharpish – [...]

Potting on – a necessary evil

I’m taking it easy again today as I have a long working day tomorrow, heading up to York for a conference. I have been adding links to my blogroll, playing with photographs in my picture editor and pootling outside potting on my seedlings.
Potting on has to be my least favourite garden job, so [...]

Plans afoot

It’s true that I have been busy recently, busy enough to teach the local bees a thing or two. And although this has meant that I haven’t had time to visit the plot and do what needs to be done (finish preparing the bean bed, weed all over, tidy up mess and try to [...]

We, the management, would like to apologise for this break in transmission.

The busy thing continues.
Long work days (out at 6:45 this morning, home after 8 in the evening – it’s not exactly junior doctor hours, but it’s marathon as far as I’m concerned). I’m no longer completely stress free (you can blame people for that – my work would be so much easier without them), [...]

Hiatus

Busy, busy, busy.
Not stressed – too much – just busy. Work busy, but some fun busy too.
Loads to tell. Site politics stuff, plans for the garden, germination in the plastic greenhouse. That sort of thing.
Not a moment of time.
Did I mention the ‘busy’?
