Yesterday and today have seen a break in the weather. We took full advantage by lazing in bed half the weekend, only venturing out briefly to cut back the hedge, mow the lawn (until the lawnmower gave up the ghost part way through) and to have a mini-barbecue. When summer is as fleeting as this, you have to make the most of it. Sure enough, having taken refuge inside from the excessive heat (there is no shade in our garden), the rain started up again.
The strawberries continue to offer up so much fruit that we are tempted to create our very own bizarre messy summer ritual and throw them at unsuspecting passersby. I quite fancy doing that irrespective of the glut of fruit, but I am learning to control my antisocial tendencies. Instead, today’s harvest was used to create a rich and fruity strawberry ice cream that is frozen bliss.
Whether or not we’re having the right weather for ice cream is another thing entirely.
