On being 37
It’s been a while since I’ve posted because I’ve been away visiting first my Dad and then my Mum. No-one can say I’m not a model daughter. I’ve also had a birthday – and I’m not the only one.
You are probably wondering what I have learned in my 37 rotations of the sun. Am I the sort of person who pauses to reflect on life’s lessons? Or do I blithely continue on my merry way with nary a care nor a clue? I am sure that you think you know the answer to that one, but in a valiant attempt at a rebuttal I thought I would share the small pearls of wisdom that have come to me in the last few days since my birthday.
- An enduring love of ice cream is a joy .
- 37 is a very interesting number indeed.
- Bifurcated drawers are both comfortable and convenient. Apparently.
- Black and white photography is quite good fun after all, even when you are a big fan of all things colourful.
Still so much to learn.

HB Clare!….Love the the B/W close up shot. Nice tones and great use of foreshortened DOF.
I have an anniversary quite soon…one that ends in an ‘0′. Not sure how I feel about it to be honest… As a perpetual teenager inside, I haven’t come to terms with the ageing thing yet.

Hi GM – Thanks! I’m glad you like the picture. I’ve been experimenting a bit with the aperture priority mode on the camera and I’m getting more and more interested in trying to capture texture (I like the grainy bits of pepper and the contrast with the smooth glass and the foam). I feel a project coming on!
My grandmother always said that ageing is better than the only available alternative – when you look at it that way, anothre birthday doesn’t necessarily seem so bad. Plus, the perpetual internal teenager thing is important I think. Unless you’re also sulking in your room and a slave to your hormones.

Hi Frankie – Thanks for the good wishes. I’m looking forward to the getting better bit!
