I was coming home through Kings Heath this morning and spotted a sign announcing the imminent arrival of a Wilkinson’s store. Excellent news. It put a spring in my step.
Still, if this is what passes for excitement in my life at the moment then I really need to get out more.

On Saturday I got a call from my gorgeous French friend inviting me to go mushroom picking with her. She does this quite often and was taught by her grandmother how to identify different mushrooms so she’s a very good person to go with. You know, from a safety point of view.

Last week I was delighted to see that my broad beans had germinated. When I sowed them I had cleverly protected them against the onslaught of the local mouse and squirrel populations by laying wire mesh over the area. As they started to poke through the soil I lifted the mesh.
