Grrrrooowwwwrrr!

Today is Owen’s birthday. Happy Birthday babe! As you can see, he’s as relaxed as ever about it. That would be the bucks fizz he’s had for breakfast.
Today is also our little cat’s birthday, we think (long story).

So, birthday celebrations all round today. Alas, there will be no birthday barbecue as it’s [...]

Breathing easy

It’s been longer than I intended since I last posted – for which I apologise.  My stressful week went fine but was followed by further busy-ness that has left little time for inspiration of the green-fingered kind.

This weekend is Owen’s birthday (more on that tomorrow) so our plans have been to do nothing much today [...]

Brief update

Stressful event number 1 this week is now out of the way.  I’d love to report that it went well, but it was something of an ordeal.  The outcome was fine, but the process was awful.
Tomorrow I am going away for a few days with work so will not be blogging or gardening until I [...]

Magic beans

If there’s one vegetable plant I can grow it’s climbing french beans. They were the first thing I grew in this garden, in a pot on the patio. Uncharacteristic achievement

We forgoed (forwent?) our usual Saturday lie in today and got up early in order to (among other things) take a trip to the garden centre and buy some 8ft bamboo canes. Our car is a Mini, not designed for ridiculously long garden equipment (or, in our experience, anything larger than a tablespoon [...]

This much I know

The prospect of fine weather and a weekend in the garden makes me feel like it might actually be spring.

Stick it to ‘em!

Success!

After voting today (a traditional May Day activity, I think you’ll find) I went for a walk in the sunshine with my gardening assistant, secateurs in hand. We wandered down near the canal and found a very convenient fallen tree, desperate to give up its broken branches to a higher purpose. My peas [...]
