First of the month

August was not nearly as sunny, warm or dry as July and that has had a marked effect in the garden. Aside from anything else, it seemed to interrupt the courgettes just as they were getting started. It also meant that the garden has not been a very nice place to be what with all that moisture and the slugs congregating in gangs all over the place. Very menacing.

The courgettes seem to have adjusted now to the rain and are starting to go for it. The next stage is for me to do some proper planning and preparation for winter. Did I just mention winter? Sorry to swear.

As before, clicking on the photos will take you to anotated copies – if you’re interested.

It’s all looking very neat. I like neat in vegetable gardens. I agree about the gangs of slugs and snails – they used to come out on theirown – now there are so many of them they come out in large devastating groups like slimy locusts (without the wings thank heavens).

Slugs with wings? Doesn’t bear thinking about! Also, is your blog a Wordpress blog? I thought I left a comment a couple of days ago, but it doesn’t seem to be there and for some reason Wordpress seems to spam all my comments (even on my own site if I’m not logged in!). Just wondering…
