Inspiration

If ever there was a web site to spur you on to greater things in the vegetable garden, this is it. The Dervaes Family are on a mission to live as sustainably as possible – and we can learn a lot from them. Their plot of land is one fifth of an acre from [...]

Rainy day activity

For the past few days it has rained. It has rained so much that it constantly sounds like the final verse of the 12 Days of Christmas on our roof. And then it has rained some more. All of which means that it has not been ‘get out in the garden and do some work’ [...]

In a pickle

I think I might have mentioned that we have had a bumper garlic harvest. 11.5kg. That’s a whole lot of stinkiness. In fairness, that is the weight of the garlic with all its leaves still attached, but still, it’s fair to say that we have ridiculous amounts of garlic and so it seems [...]

Brief update

Stressful event number 1 this week is now out of the way.  I’d love to report that it went well, but it was something of an ordeal.  The outcome was fine, but the process was awful.
Tomorrow I am going away for a few days with work so will not be blogging or gardening until I [...]

A bean’s a bean, but a pea…

Last year I had hoped to break my duck, as it were, and finally grow myself some peas. Unfortunately, excessive rain combined with allotment indolence, leading to complete allotment abandonment scuppered those dreams. This year I am better prepared and more hopeful. My pea seedlings are planted out and more seeds are sown.
My [...]

En vacances

Just a quick post before I throw myself in the shower to get clean and shiny for our trip to Paris.
I will post while we are away.
Assuming I manage to find time between the food, the shopping, the  sightseeing, the ambience, the eating, the art, the eating and the eating.  Did I mention the eating?
